Highland Park United Methodist Church began in 1915 when SMU students attended the first service in Dallas Hall, the landmark building of the university. The University Church was founded in 1916 with the current sanctuary built in 1927. HPUMC's sanctuary was recognized as a "Recorded Texas Historic Landmark" in 1995.
